26-06-2024 Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support for parents and carers

Our Voice is pleased to offer our 'Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support' workshops for parent carers.

Our first three sessions will be on Wednesday 22nd May, Wednesday 12th June and Wednesday 26th June, and all will run at the Cheviots Children's Centre from 10 am to 12 noon.

See details on our flyer here

All places must be pre-booked via Eventbrite here

Cheviots can provide creche facilities and/or an interpreter if you need one. Please make sure you let us know when you book your place.

The sessions aim to provide an understanding of Positive Behaviour Support to help families to prevent and manage behaviours of distress by creating an environment that minimises the need for these behaviours. The outcome should be to improve the quality of life for the child/young person and their whole family.

We will look at how families can work with the whole network of people around their child/young person (for example school staff, professionals in social care settings etc) to enable a consistent approach around the child/young person.

The training will be run by expert members of the Our Voice team who have training in PBS and lived experience of using the techniques with their own children.

Please note that this session will not include a detailed Q&A session to explore individual scenarios about your child's behaviour - but you can also go along to one (or more) of the monthly PBS drop-in sessions at Cheviots to discuss these questions and challenges with professionals from the Cheviots team, and Our Voice team members with personal lived experience. See details in the flyer here. Next sessions will be on Fridays 7th June, 5th July and 6th September 10 am - 12 pm.

16-05-2024 Starting primary school

Our Voice will be presenting at the next Rising to Reception online workshops on Wednesday 8th May 10 am and Thursday 16th May.

We will be talking about our experiences of helping our children with the transition to school.

This is part of the ‘Rising to Reception’ programme run by the Enfield Communication Advisory Support Service (ECASS) aimed at the families of children with communication difficulties who are due to start primary school in September 2024 (i.e. born between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020), although our session is useful for parents of children with any additional needs (not just communication difficulties).

You can see the whole programme of events and the link to register in the booklet here.

If you have any queries, please contact the ECASS team at RisingtoReception@enfield.gov.uk
